Quirky girl

One of the blogs I happened upon today mentioned her "quirk" of loving to smell wet laundry as she took it out of the wash. As I read over the quirks her commenters revealed, I pondered my own quirks, of which I have many, and decided to share them here.

1. I have a laundry quirk too. When I was a big pile of laundry- say towels, comforters, or sheets, I love to lay in them like a cat right when they come out of the dryer. It reminds me of when I was a wee kid and would lay in the sweet scent of fresh clothes after my mom dumped them on the floor to fold.

2. You know, boogers and earwax is disgusting, but as a mother, I find that I am obsessively picking my critters' noses and ears. I've even found myself inspecting my husband's nose and then thinking, "Ew! That's gross! I am NOT going to pick his nose!"

3. After giving the baby a bath, I have to spank his little heiny because it's just so stinkin' cute. It's just a slight tap. Baby bottoms are adorable.

4. I don't like anyone else to load my dishwasher because I'm very anal about it. The dishes and cups have to be placed in a way that allows maximum space for other stuff while still making it quick and easy to unload. When Brandon and I first married, we argued about which way the silverware should face. Up or down? Silly, right, but probably pretty common.

5. Sometimes I spray my pillow with body spray or fabric freshener before I go to bed.

6. After I clean, I always light a candle. It's like saying, "My list is done."

7. I like to line things up. I know that's a little obsessive compulsive, but it makes me feel good. However, with three children rearranging everything... nothing ever stays the way I like it.

(Side note: AWWWW.. Keagan is clapping... he just learned how to do it himself.. and this is the first time I've seen him just sit there and clap for several minutes straight. *Proud Mama Moment*)

8. When I was a kid, I couldn't sleep unless I had a head band (you know, the things that pull back bangs and such) in my hair. I have no clue why, but I grew out of it around eleven or twelve years of age.

9. I wiggle my nose a lot. I think it's just when I'm wearing glasses, but I'm becoming increasingly aware of this little rabbit habit.

10. I have to go through a routine of things before I go to bed, which includes making sure the doors are locked, making sure the cars are locked, making sure the lights are out, the children are okay, and there is no laundry in the washer. AND, if I don't do one of these things, I will lie awake thinking about it until I get up and do it... or force my husband to.

It's gotten to the point where he'll get in bed and say, "Yes the doors and cars are locked."

11. I like to smell my food before I taste it. Some people think this is weird, although I don't think it is. People love to smell all sorts of food, like pie and cookies... and even drinks like wine. Only difference is I like to smell everything- even chips. :)

12. I really have to be positive and rev myself up when it comes to doing something that I've never done- like unassisted birth. I really did a lot of uppity-talk about it, while behind the scenes, I worried I might fail. I had to continue to push those thoughts out of my head. I have found, if I'm negative about something, I'll probably fail, but if I keep giving myself peptalks and allow myself to get thrilled about it.. I'll probably succeed. And, seeing as Keagan is here, alive and healthy... obviously the unassisted birth succeeded.

I have many more quirks, but I can't think of them right now. Keagan has a couple quirks, too. He has to play the piano whenever possible.

I have about a dozen photos of different times he's played the piano.. and a video too.

I HATE doing laundry (makes my hands hurt--I realize now that most of the jobs I hated growing up--dishes, laundry, etc make my hands hurt which explains a lot.)

I have a weird obsession with cleaning ears, removing splinters, etc. Don't know why but, oh well.

And I do the dishwasher thign as well--I am teachign my kids to treat it as a puzzle trying to fit as much as possible but HATE when hubby loads it since he is all for small loads which take twice as long.

LOL We are soooo much a like in so many different ways it's really hilarious!

I can relate to the laudry smelling addict. You know those Gain comercials with the pregnant woman? Where instead of food cravings-forcing her husband to drive to the gas station for fritos or something, she has him get Gain? That is soooo me, only Purex Mountain Fresh. When I was pregnant I would buy the powder soap and keep it in a ziplock so I could smell it when I wasn't at home.

I still {before I started making my own again} want to stick my head in the soap box when I go in the basement to do laundry!

Go ahead....judge me! LOL
