I'm not fond of summer

We're year-round homeschoolers, but there hasn't been much homeschooling lately, at least not purposeful. I just can't seem to get in the groove. I have a real lack of energy (I really need to examine and change my diet), and I don't think the kids are in a real mood to focus on certain things either.

Instead, we've been working around the house- gardening, building, baking. I'd really like to take this summer to visit some educational place around our state, and maybe outside of our state.

As a homeschooling family, I'm not very fond of summer for several reasons. First of all, it's ridiculously hot and humid where I live. Secondly, places are so crowded in the summer. We're use to having museums, zoos, malls, and other venues "to ourselves", but during the summer, places are crawling with other families, and it's just not as enjoyable, even on weekdays.. and don't even think about the weekends!

So I'd like to get out and do stuff with the kids, but I really don't like fighting the crowds!

"gardening, building, baking"..um, Mandy? Your kids ARE learning!!!!! I too hate that all the cool stuff to do is crowded in the summer. Although in our case we are blessed because my dad has a lovely quiet 13 acres where we can hang out, camp, learn. swim, and build.

We homeschool year round too, but I haven't gotten in the groove either. It's so hard to homeschool when the sun is shining and the kids want to be outside! I'm very relaxed and just play each day by ear, especially in the summer! Glad to hear I'm not alone.

Funny I was about to write a first sentence very similar to Heathers. Don't beat yourself up! I will however agree with you about the crowds. :)

Amen and Amen! I agreed to go to a little waterpark type place on Friday and now I am kicking myself...WHAT WAS I THINKIN'???!!!

We homeschool year round as well and love it since I do tend to hide out in the hot summer months, and hsing year round tends to keep me from feeling guilty about all the days I take off throughout the year!

Hello Mandy my friend- I am sorry it has been a few weeks. I have been busy with a local move- and trying so hard to get my home back in order.
I don't like the summer very much either. For all the same reasons you mentioned. I count down till the public schools go back(haha)

You are definitely schooling the children, not educationally maybe but with life skills, gardening, building etc.. all important things they should know.

Good Luck on finding something that is not crawling with lots of people. If you do please share!
